The mechanic’s shop was a 30×40 pole building with concrete floors and 12 foot side walls – plenty of vertical room compared to a typical residential garage, but he still wanted the math done before ordering. He was working on passenger vehicles mostly under 7,000 pounds, and his priority was being able to get a car up in the air quickly, work an oil pan gasket job from underneath without a creeper, and store a second vehicle either on the platform or beneath it when the lift was raised.

For a mobile mechanic specifically, that open access matters because a lot of the work is diagnostic before it is repair – checking for the source of a leak, confirming which gasket or seal is failing, inspecting surrounding components for related wear. We checked the floor for adequate thickness and confirmed there were no cracks or expansion joints running through the planned anchor points. For anyone converting an existing pole building rather than building new, this step matters more than people expect – a slab that looks solid can still have thin spots or joints that were not visible until we got the anchor pattern laid out. In his case the floor held up fine, and anchoring went ahead without needing any floor reinforcement.
Working Height Flexibility for a Mobile Mechanic’s Varied Jobs
One thing this mechanic asked about early on was whether the lift was all-or-nothing on height, since some jobs need full raise and others just need a comfortable working height.
