Iowa runs on trucks. From the grain haulers moving corn out of Story County to the fire apparatus rolling out of municipal stations across the state, heavy vehicles keep Iowa’s economy and communities functioning. Servicing those vehicles requires a heavy duty truck lift built for serious weight — not a passenger car lift pushed beyond its limits.

At Auto Lift Services, we specialize in heavy duty truck lifts for Iowa’s commercial fleets, fire departments, school districts, municipalities, and trucking companies. We have installed lifts rated from 30,000 to 150,000 pounds in facilities across the state, and we service every one of them.

What Makes a Lift “Heavy Duty”

A standard 2-post or 4-post car lift tops out at 10,000 to 15,000 pounds. A heavy duty truck lift starts at 30,000 pounds and goes up from there. The engineering differences are substantial — heavier steel, larger hydraulic cylinders, wider runways, reinforced locking systems, and three-phase electrical power. These are not oversized car lifts. They are purpose-built machines designed to hold a loaded fire truck, a school bus full of kids, or a Class 8 semi safely in the air while your technicians work underneath.

In Iowa, the demand for heavy duty truck lifts comes from several industries: agriculture (grain trucks, sprayers, combines that need undercarriage service), municipal fleets (fire trucks, snowplows, garbage trucks), school districts (bus maintenance), and over-the-road trucking companies operating along I-80 and I-35.

Heavy Duty Truck Lifts We Install Across Iowa

Challenger 4030-4060 Series — 30,000 to 60,000 lbs

The Challenger 4030 through 4060 is the most popular heavy duty truck lift series we sell in Iowa. Four capacity options let you match the lift to your fleet:

The 4030 at 30,000 pounds handles medium-duty trucks, delivery vans, ambulances, and larger fleet vehicles. It is the entry point into true heavy duty territory and fits many Iowa municipal maintenance facilities that service a mix of trucks and smaller equipment.

The 4040 at 40,000 pounds covers school buses, heavier box trucks, and most single-axle commercial vehicles. Iowa school districts maintaining their own bus fleets frequently choose the 4040 because it handles every bus in the fleet with capacity to spare.

The 4050 at 50,000 pounds is built for fire apparatus, heavy commercial trucks, and large construction vehicles. Iowa fire departments from Des Moines to small volunteer departments across the state rely on lifts in this class.

The 4060 at 60,000 pounds handles the heaviest over-the-road equipment — loaded semis, heavy construction equipment, and specialty vehicles. For Iowa trucking companies running their own maintenance shops, the 4060 means never sending a truck out for service that could be done in-house.

All models in the series require 208-230V three-phase power, minimum 6-inch concrete at 4,000 PSI, and bays at least 16 feet wide and 30 to 36 feet deep depending on the model. Rise times range from 90 to 120 seconds. These are serious installations that we handle from anchor bolt layout through final calibration.

Rotary Mobile Columns (FlexMax Series) — 28,000 to 150,400 lbs

When a permanent heavy duty truck lift does not fit your operation — maybe you service vehicles at multiple locations, or your facility does not have the ceiling height for a fixed lift — Rotary’s FlexMax mobile columns are the answer.

Each FlexMax 19 column handles 18,800 pounds independently. Configure them in sets:

  • 2 columns: 37,600 lbs — medium trucks, large vans
  • 4 columns: 75,200 lbs — fire trucks, loaded semis
  • 6 columns: 112,800 lbs — heavy construction equipment
  • 8 columns: 150,400 lbs — the heaviest vehicles on the road

The FlexMax columns run on 24V DC batteries that charge on a standard 110-240V wall plug. No pit work, no permanent anchoring, no three-phase electrical. Roll them into position around the vehicle, set the wireless Red Fire 2.0 remote, and lift. Each column has a digital weight gauge so your technicians can verify load distribution in real time.

For Iowa municipalities that maintain equipment at multiple facilities, mobile columns eliminate the need to install a permanent heavy duty truck lift at every location. Transport the columns to the vehicle instead of transporting the vehicle to the lift.

The FlexMax 14 offers a lighter-duty option at 14,000 pounds per column (56,000 pounds in a set of four) for operations that do not need the full 19-series capacity.

Mobile Runway System — Turning Columns Into a Drive-On Lift

Rotary’s Mobile Runway System pairs with FlexMax 19 columns to create a 60,000-pound drive-on heavy duty truck lift that can be assembled and disassembled as needed. The 33-foot runways accommodate the longest wheelbases on the road. When you need a full 4-post style lift but cannot commit to a permanent installation, this system bridges the gap.

Iowa-Specific Installation Realities

Concrete

Iowa’s clay soils create unique challenges for heavy duty truck lift installations. The weight concentrated through four columns at 30,000 to 60,000 pounds demands concrete that can handle the load without cracking or settling. We test existing slabs before every installation and have poured custom pads at Iowa facilities where the original concrete was not adequate.

For new construction, we recommend at least 6 inches of reinforced concrete at 4,000 PSI for any heavy duty truck lift. The additional cost of proper concrete is trivial compared to the cost of a lift settling or a floor cracking under a 50,000-pound fire truck.

Electrical

Three-phase 208-230V power is standard for fixed heavy duty truck lifts. Most industrial buildings along Iowa’s major corridors already have three-phase service, but smaller municipal facilities and rural shops may not. We coordinate with local electricians and Iowa utilities to get three-phase service run when needed. The FlexMax mobile columns sidestep this entirely with their battery-powered design.

Ceiling Height

Fixed heavy duty truck lifts with 70 to 80 inches of rise, plus the height of the vehicle itself, require 18 to 22 feet of ceiling clearance. Many older Iowa maintenance facilities were built with lower ceilings. Before purchasing a heavy duty truck lift, measure your clear ceiling height and factor in lighting, ductwork, and fire suppression that may reduce available space. We have helped Iowa facilities modify overhead obstructions to accommodate new lifts.

Service and Maintenance Across Iowa

A heavy duty truck lift is a long-term investment — 20 to 30 years of service life when properly maintained. Auto Lift Services provides annual inspections, cable and cylinder replacement, hydraulic system service, and emergency repairs across Iowa. When a column at an Iowa fire station needs a cylinder at 2 AM before the next shift, we respond.

Our technicians carry the specialized knowledge that heavy duty truck lifts require. These are not the same service procedures as passenger car lifts. The hydraulic volumes, cable tensions, and safety mechanisms are all scaled up, and the consequences of improper service are scaled up with them.
