We’ve walked into more than a few Iowa garages where the owner bought the lift first and asked questions second, and it usually means cutting a header, jackhammering a slab, or shipping a lift back because the ceiling was two inches short. Step One: Measure the Building, Not the Lift

Before you fall in love with a specific model, measure your own space. Step Three: Decide Two-Post, Four-Post, or Scissor — For the Right Reasons

Step Four: Anchoring, Clearance, and the Adjustable-Height Question

The good news: nearly every quality two-post and four-post lift has locking positions roughly every two to two and a half inches of travel, so you’re never stuck choosing between all the way down or all the way up. That matters if you’re storing two lower-profile vehicles and don’t need full height, or if you’re doing work that’s easier at waist height instead of overhead. Ask about lock spacing when you’re comparing models — it varies slightly by brand and it affects how flexible the lift feels in daily use.

Anchoring itself should never be treated as an afterthought bolted on after delivery. We set anchor depth and torque based on the specific concrete conditions on-site, not a generic spec sheet number, and we test lift operation empty before any vehicle goes up.
