Why Concrete Thickness Is the First Question, Not the Last

Every lift manufacturer publishes a minimum concrete thickness and cure time, and for most residential-rated two-post lifts that number sits around 4 inches of properly cured concrete, typically 28 days old, at 3,000 PSI or better. A home car lift for garage use puts enormous point-loading through four small anchor bolt clusters, not spread evenly like a parked car. That concentrated load is why a driveway slab poured for foot traffic and light vehicle parking often isn’t rated the same as a slab poured specifically for lift anchoring.

Rebar, Cure Time, and the Mistakes We See Most Often

Fresh concrete needs its full 28-day cure to reach rated strength — anchoring a lift into concrete poured two weeks ago is a recipe for pulled anchors down the road, even if the thickness is correct. We’ll always ask when the slab was poured, not just how thick it is.

On the rebar side, we’ve seen homeowners assume wire mesh is the same as rebar — it isn’t, for lift-anchoring purposes. Wire mesh helps control surface cracking but doesn’t carry the same structural reinforcement rebar does at anchor-bolt depth.
