Wheel bearing work is a recurring job – every 100,000 to 150,000 miles on the heavy-duty axles, more often if the trucks run gravel routes. The existing bays had lifts, but the owner wanted a dedicated wheel-bearing bay with a hydraulic lift automotive that could reliably hoist a 22,000-pound loaded chassis to shoulder height for axle work. His existing 10K two-posts couldn’t do it, so we spec’d new equipment from the ground up.

ALI Gold Certification and Commissioning

The Automotive Lift Institute runs a third-party certification program where lifts are tested to ANSI standards and installers are audited for correct commissioning. The lift itself has to carry an ALI Gold label from the factory, which the Rotary model does. Commissioning has to be documented against a checklist that includes anchor torque verification, safety-cam engagement testing, arm-restraint engagement testing, cycle testing under load, and hydraulic pressure verification. We complete that checklist as part of every heavy-duty install and provide it to the shop owner in a binder.
ALI Gold isn’t a line item on our invoice because it’s built into how we install. It’s a huge line item on your shop’s insurance and liability posture, though. Some commercial insurance carriers won’t cover a shop that operates a non-certified hydraulic lift automotive at heavy-duty capacity. Some OSHA-covered environments require ALI-certified equipment.
