Step One: Confirm the Failure Is Actually the Cylinder

Before ordering anything, find your lift’s model number and manufacture year. The nameplate is usually mounted on the column near the power unit, or occasionally on the power unit itself. Step Six: The Reinstall and Post-Repair Test
Once the cylinder is rebuilt and reinstalled, the machine gets a proper post-repair test before it goes back into service. Fluid top-off with fresh hydraulic oil, full bleed of the air out of the system, and a series of loaded and unloaded cycle tests. Loaded test is with a jack stand or a piece of test ballast — never with a customer vehicle for the first cycle. Watch the fluid level, watch for external leaks at every fitting, listen for pump strain or unusual noise, and confirm the lift holds position for at least fifteen minutes at working height without drift.
If the lift passes the hold test, it goes back to work. If it drifts even a small amount, tear it down and find the leak.
