OEM Seal Kit vs Generic — Where to Save and Where Not To
We stock both, and we recommend OEM every time on the cylinder itself. Piston seals, rod seals, and wear bands live inside a bore that was ground to a specific tolerance at the factory, and off-brand kits sometimes ship with the wrong hardness or an undersized U-cup. That will fail again in months. Where you can save money: pump service parts, filter elements, and reservoir gaskets are commodity items and a good generic set works fine. Then we test at 25%, 50%, and full rated load and verify hold pressure for ten minutes at each stage. If it drops, we tear back in. No shortcuts.
When a Rebuild Isn’t the Answer
Sometimes we tell a customer flat-out to buy a new hydraulic lift automotive package instead of rebuilding.
