This is a small operational habit that costs nothing and prevents both trip incidents and dropped-wheel injuries. Cable replacement at the eight-year mark, or sooner if visual inspection shows any fraying or corrosion. Anchor torque check annually. Miss any of the big three and the safety math shifts. A cable that snapped at the eight-year mark on another shop we service dropped a small pickup a foot and a half, which is enough to bend rocker panels and hurt whoever is nearby.
