Without a functioning restraint, an arm can swing inward when the vehicle sways or a tech leans on the fender, and the pad can slide off the pinch weld or lift point. Restraint styles vary. Some use a friction-plate mechanism with a spring-loaded lever, some use a gear-tooth engagement that clicks positively at every angle. Four: safety latches audibly click as the lift ascends. Five: descent control returns the lift smoothly with no hesitation or drift.

Monthly adds hydraulic fluid quality assessment, cylinder rod inspection for pitting or scoring, and torque check on all anchor bolts.

Anchor bolt torque is the one that fleet supervisors most often skip. Over months of use, thermal cycling and dynamic loads can loosen wedge anchors even in perfectly poured concrete. We have visited fleet shops where the anchors were finger-tight at the seven-year mark and nobody had noticed. The fix is simple — retorque to spec — but only if you check.
