Every lift manufacturer has run multiple design revisions of the same product line over the years, sometimes with the same base model name but completely different arm lengths, cable routing, or hydraulic setups. A Rotary SPO12 built in 2005 is not identical under the skin to one built in 2018. Without a serial number, we’re guessing at which revision you own, and a guess on a hydraulic part is a guess that can leave a vehicle unsupported. That is not a risk we’re willing to take, and it shouldn’t be one you take either.
This is also a safety and liability issue, not just a convenience one. Sometimes the tag is gone completely, ripped off during a move or painted over during a shop remodel. When that happens, we start working the problem from other angles. Arm style, column shape, base footprint, and the type of cable or chain routing all tell us something about the manufacturer and general product family, even without a number. Photos help enormously here, especially close-up shots of the arm restrictors, the power unit housing, and any casting marks on the columns.
We’ve also had good luck tracing lifts through old purchase records, shop insurance inspection paperwork, or even permit filings if the lift was installed with a building permit, which many commercial installations require in Iowa. Capacity ratings, usually shown in pounds, are a separate figure entirely and should never be confused with a serial number when you’re calling in an order.
If the tag has multiple stacked codes with no clear labels, take a photo and send it to us rather than guessing which line is which.
