Before we ever touch a bolt, we’re looking at the concrete. Lift anchor bolt installation only works as well as the slab underneath it. We start by positioning the lift base exactly per the manufacturer’s template, then mark and drill each hole to the specified diameter and depth using a hammer drill with a bit matched to the anchor spec. We never eyeball depth — we measure every hole against the anchor manufacturer’s chart every single time.

Once the holes are drilled, we clear all dust and debris completely, because leftover concrete dust is one of the biggest killers of holding strength in wedge and adhesive anchors alike. We drive the anchors to the correct depth, torque them in the specified sequence, and check every bolt a second time before the lift is ever put into service. This double-check step catches the occasional bolt that seated slightly off or didn’t reach full torque the first pass. It’s a small extra step that takes a few minutes and prevents a much bigger problem down the road.

Choosing the Right Anchor Type for Your Slab

Not every slab calls for the same anchor. Most lift manufacturers spec a wedge-style mechanical anchor for standard concrete, but we sometimes recommend adhesive (epoxy) anchors when the slab is on the thinner side or when we’re anchoring near an edge or joint where a mechanical anchor’s expansion force could crack the concrete. Torque is where a lot of DIY anchor bolt installation goes wrong. Under-torqued bolts leave slack in the system that shows up as vibration, rocking, or a lift that feels loose under load. Over-torqued bolts can crack the surrounding concrete or strip the anchor threads, which is arguably worse because the failure isn’t visible until the lift is already loaded with a vehicle. We use a calibrated torque wrench on every anchor and follow the manufacturer’s exact spec, not a rounded-off number from memory.
