Mechanic Car Lift for Sale: How to Buy From a Real Iowa Dealer

Alignment Machine For Sale Boca Raton, FL

Contact Us

When we list a mechanic car lift for sale at Auto Lift Services, it is not a random SKU in an online catalog — it is a lift we have chosen because it fits Iowa shop reality. New Rotary and Challenger two-posts, occasional used commercial trade-ins, and every wear part in between. We ship and install across Iowa — Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Ames, Ankeny, Waterloo — and we back what we sell with a 48-hour repair promise. This article walks through what actually matters when you are comparing a mechanic car lift for sale from any dealer, including us.

What a mechanic car lift for sale should actually include

A serious mechanic car lift for sale includes more than the columns and the arms. Look for the ALI Gold Label on the equipment tag — that is your certification that the lift was tested to ANSI/ALI ALCTV standards. Confirm the arm configuration matches your work: three-stage front arms if you see modern low-profile vehicles, symmetric or asymmetric columns to match your typical vehicle mix.

Check what is included in the box. On our Rotary SPOA10 and Challenger CL10 listings, that means columns, arms, hydraulic power unit, all cables and sheaves, safety lock latches, control cable, air line kit, and anchor bolts. Not included, and worth budgeting for: concrete anchor sleeves if your floor is on the thin side, extended arm pads for lifted trucks, and a bolt-on air line if your shop uses air tools at the lift. The listings that read like a stripped price with everything sold separately usually pencil to the same or higher total than an all-in commercial quote.

New vs. used: the honest tradeoff

A new mechanic car lift for sale carries a warranty, current-spec safety devices, and a predictable service life of 15 to 20 years. A used commercial lift — pulled from a shop closing or a dealership consolidation — can be significantly less expensive and still have most of its useful life ahead of it, if it was properly maintained. We have Iowa buyers asking about used almost weekly, including one who specifically wanted a used 10K two-post with low-profile arms to work on cars and change oil.

We stock both. Our used inventory rotates as Iowa and Midwest shops turn over. Every used Rotary or Challenger we sell goes through a full pre-sale inspection — columns pulled, cables checked, cylinders verified, latches tested. What we will not sell used are off-brand imports of unknown pedigree, lifts with structural repair history, or anything that failed a recent ALI inspection. For a hobbyist or a second-bay upgrade, used often makes sense. For a shop opening its first bay, we usually recommend new.

Financing and 0% APR options

Auto Lift Services offers 0% APR financing on commercial lift purchases through First Business Bank — twelve months, with a 90-day payment deferral for qualifying shops. For a first-bay operator, that means the lift is generating billable hours for three months before the first payment posts.

The application takes about ten minutes. Approval decisions typically come back within one business day. For extended terms — 24, 36, or 60 months — First Business can quote at rates that vary by application. For shops with existing credit lines, we accept ACH, business check, credit card, and wire transfer. Purchase orders from municipal fleets and larger commercial accounts are handled directly. If financing is not the right fit and you are paying cash, we can usually shave a small percentage off list — the delta we would have paid the financing partner. Every mechanic car lift for sale on our site is eligible for the same treatment.

Freight, delivery, and lift-gate reality

A two-post lift ships as three or four crates totaling 1,800 to 2,500 pounds. That is an LTL freight shipment, not a UPS box. Every mechanic car lift for sale from us includes freight quotation before you sign — we do not hide it in the checkout and surprise you.

Standard freight to Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Missouri runs three to seven business days from our shipping partners. Delivery is curbside on a 53-foot trailer unless you specify lift gate service. Lift gate — where the driver lowers the pallet to ground level with a hydraulic tailgate — adds cost and requires a driveway or dock a semi-truck can maneuver to. If your Iowa shop is on a tight rural road or a residential driveway, book the lift gate. Inside delivery is not standard and rarely available — plan on a pallet jack or a forklift on your end.

Turnkey install vs. self-install

Every mechanic car lift for sale on our site is available as either equipment-only or turnkey install. Turnkey means we handle freight, anchor the columns, run the electrical, plumb the hydraulics, test the safety latches, and hand you a working lift with the ALI-required initial inspection certificate.

Self-install is a real option for buyers with the tools and the experience. A two-post takes two people, a rotary hammer for anchor drilling, a chain hoist for column raising, and about 8 to 12 hours of steady work. If you have done it before, you know what you are getting into. If you have not, we will not talk you into or out of it — we will just make sure you have the anchor spec, the electrical requirements, and our phone number if something goes sideways. Turnkey install pricing depends on distance from Ames. Central Iowa usually runs a flat rate; longer regional trips are quoted with travel. See our install cost guide for a fuller breakdown.

Warranty and post-sale support

A commercial mechanic car lift for sale from a real dealer includes a real warranty. Rotary two-posts carry a five-year structural warranty and a one-year parts warranty as standard, with extended options available. Challenger two-posts run similar terms. Off-brand imports usually offer 90 days or one year — with the fine print that warranty means you ship the failed part back overseas and wait.

Our warranty coverage is real: if a covered component fails inside term, we ship the replacement to your bay and, in most Iowa cases, come out and swap it. No return-freight games, no proof-of-purchase disputes months later. We keep the sale records and the install date, so the coverage math is straightforward. Post-warranty support is where dealer choice really matters. We have been servicing Iowa lifts for over a decade, and we stock parts for lifts that predate our storefront by twenty years.

Our Iowa buying process, start to finish

Start with a phone call to 800-674-9302 or an email to [email protected]. Tell us the bay dimensions, the ceiling height, the vehicles you plan to lift, and the timeline. We come back within a business day with a shortlist — usually two to three options at different price points — and a quote that includes freight, install, and any accessories your shop actually needs.

If you are local to central Iowa, we schedule a site visit before quoting install. We measure the ceiling, check the concrete, verify the electrical, and confirm the anchor pattern will hit solid pad. If you are outside our install region, we work off dimensions you send and coordinate freight to your dock. Payment is straightforward: 50 percent deposit to lock the equipment and schedule freight, balance on delivery or before install. For our full pre-purchase checklist see our buying a car lift guide.
