Building a Realistic Inspection Schedule

For RV and trailer shops, we recommend a tiered schedule: monthly visual checks of cables and hoses, quarterly functional tests of the rotary air cylinder’s rise and descent smoothness, and an annual full inspection that includes seal condition and counterbalance valve function. When to Call for a Rebuild vs. a Replacement

Eventually, every rotary air cylinder needs attention beyond routine maintenance. If you’re seeing consistent seal leaks, pitting on the rod, or repeated pressure loss even after a fresh seal kit, it’s time to weigh a full rebuild against replacement. For older lifts — especially inherited equipment where the exact cylinder specs or original manufacturer documentation are unclear — a rebuild using correct end-mounting dimensions and port sizing is usually the more economical path, provided the housing itself is still sound.

It’s often a fraction of the cost of new equipment and gets you several more years of reliable service.
