Asymmetric means the columns are rotated slightly and the front arms are shorter than the rear arms, so the vehicle sits farther back between the posts and the driver’s door opens without smacking a column. If you spend your day in and out of cars — alignments, brakes, exhaust, general service — the door clearance is not a luxury feature, it is minutes saved a dozen times a day.
The overhead configuration puts the equalizer cables and hydraulic line up in the crossbar rather than in a floor channel, which keeps the concrete clean and makes floor sweeping and drainage simple. Installation Reality in an Iowa Shop
Installation is where a two-post lift earns or loses its reputation, and it has almost nothing to do with the brand on the column. Concrete is the whole story. We want a minimum slab thickness and strength under each column, we want to know how far the anchors sit from a control joint or a slab edge, and we want to know if that section of floor was poured with the rest of the building or added later when somebody extended the bay. We core-test when we are not sure. A perfectly good lift anchored into four inches of questionable pour is a bad lift.

What Wears Out and When

The lift is available in single-phase and three-phase, and the choice is not about preference — it is about what your building already has and what your electrician can run without opening a wall. Single-phase 208-230V is what most home garages and a lot of small independent shops end up with. Three-phase is common in dealership and larger commercial buildings and generally means a quieter, cooler-running motor. Confirm your service before ordering, because swapping a power unit after the fact is money you did not need to spend.
Beyond electrical, the details we remind people about: leave room behind the lift for the arms to swing, do not park the air line where a rising carriage will find it, plan the hydraulic hose routing before you anchor, and mount the control column on the side the tech will actually stand on.
