Bay dimensions and ceiling clearance
First checklist item: measure the bay. Not the whole shop, the specific bay where the lift will live. You need floor width, floor depth, ceiling height at the lowest point over the lift footprint, and door height. Write those numbers down before you call anyone. Pole buildings sometimes have thinner slabs than expected — three inches is common in older builds — and thinner slabs need engineered anchor solutions or a slab pour before install.
His slab was original with the building, dated by the tax records. We had him send us photos of the surface and any visible cracks. It looked good — no through-cracks, no spalling, no signs of subsidence. On install day we confirmed thickness at each anchor point during drilling. Four and three-quarter inches at each hole.
