The vehicle sits on the platform at chest or waist height, the diff is visible and reachable from the side, and a drain pan slides underneath without contorting. On a rear-wheel-drive truck the pumpkin housing is between the platform rails, exposed with maybe a foot of clearance below the housing floor.

Bring a 3/8 drive ratchet with a 10-mm hex bit, crack the drain plug, catch the fluid in a 6-quart pan, and you’re 15 minutes into a 25-minute job. Compare that to jack-stand service — jack the rear, set stands, crawl underneath, pump fluid up through the fill port with a hand pump — and the scissor pays back its price on any owner running multiple vehicles. Match the platform to the wheelbase and you never have to work around the platform edge. You don’t have to commit to fully raised or fully lowered; you set the working height, engage the lock, and get to work. Once he understood he could set the platform anywhere between full down and full up, the scissor moved to the front of his list. The takeaway: buy the height flexibility, use it every job, and stop hunching over vehicles set at the wrong height.
