You need wheels-free access, which means the lift has to clear the tire and wheel assembly completely rather than resting on the frame rails in a spot that blocks the hub. Installation Week: What Actually Happened

We scheduled the install for a slower stretch in their calendar, three days total. Day one was anchoring and structural setup — this is the part that can’t be rushed, since a column set even slightly out of level will bind over time and wear unevenly. Day two was hydraulic and electrical hookup, running lines, setting the power unit, and testing travel through full range without a load. Day three was load testing with an actual trailer on the platform, checking for even rise, proper locking engagement, and confirming safety systems worked exactly as designed before we signed off.

The shop lost half a week of bay time, which they’d planned for by scheduling lighter work that week. That’s a detail we always recommend — don’t plan a big fleet job for install week. We also spent time training their two techs on load positioning, since improper axle placement on semi lifts is one of the more common mistakes we see with crews new to heavy equipment. The tech could walk completely around the vehicle, pull wheels, inspect and replace rotors, and torque everything back down without ever crawling under a suspended load.

The owner told us the difference wasn’t just speed — it was confidence. Techs work faster and more carefully when they’re not worried about stability. That fleet customer became a standing weekly account within two months, and word spread to two more trucking outfits in the area who needed a shop that could actually handle their brake service without a three-week wait. What We’d Tell Any Shop Considering This Now

If you’re an RV or trailer shop weighing whether to add heavy-duty capacity, start with an honest look at how much of this work you’re already turning down. The other piece of advice: don’t skip the site survey to save time or money upfront. A proper survey takes a few hours. Getting it wrong costs weeks and thousands of dollars in rework. We’d rather spend the extra time upfront than watch a shop struggle with equipment that doesn’t fit their building.

Maintenance and Long-Term Care for Heavy-Duty Lifts

Once semi lifts are in and running, the maintenance schedule matters more than most owners expect, especially with the loads and cycle counts a busy trailer shop puts on equipment. We recommend cable and hydraulic inspections on a set schedule, not just when something feels off, because heavy-duty lift components wear gradually and predictably if you’re paying attention. Lubrication points, anchor bolt torque checks, and safety lock engagement should all be part of a written routine that someone on staff actually owns.
