Alignment work already eats floor space. Between the rack, the alignment lift, and the cabinet of adapters and weights, most Des Moines metro shops don’t have room for a tire machine that needs a wide clearance radius on every side. Wheel Size Range and Alignment Shop Realities

Alignment shops in the Des Moines metro see a wide mix of vehicles — passenger cars needing shims, lifted trucks with 22-inch-plus wheels, and the occasional fleet vehicle with steel wheels that fight every clamp. Alignment bays sometimes have older electrical runs from a time when the bay only housed a rack, so before you commit to a machine, have someone check what’s actually available at the wall. We’ve had Des Moines metro shops discover mid-install that their air compressor was undersized for a second machine running off the same line, which turns into an unplanned compressor upgrade.

Plan the air line routing so it doesn’t cross the tech’s walking path between the changer and the balancer — a hose lying across the floor in a busy alignment bay is a trip hazard waiting to happen. For a shop billing out alignment work at a decent hourly rate, downtime on a tire machine is expensive in a way that’s easy to underestimate.
