Every decision tree starts with money, and a truck lift column is no exception. On the low end, a basic two-column set for light trucks and vans runs in the mid five-figure range installed. That gets you two mobile columns, a shared controller, and enough capacity for most half-ton and three-quarter-ton pickups. It does not get you extensions, wireless sync, or the ability to add columns later without buying a whole new communication system, so if you think you’ll expand, say so up front.

If your bay layout is fixed and you’re lifting the same footprint of vehicle repeatedly, wired columns are reliable, less expensive, and have fewer things that can interfere with the signal.

If you’re doing varied work — different wheelbase trucks, occasional heavy equipment, projects that need the columns spread wider or narrower than usual — wireless sync gives you the flexibility to reposition without running cable across the floor every time. We’ve serviced both types for shops around the region, and the failure modes are different: wired systems occasionally have connector or cable damage from being run over or pinched, while wireless systems can have interference issues near heavy welding equipment. Neither is wrong, but know which trade-off you’re accepting before you commit to a truck lift column configuration.

Shops sometimes look at total lift capacity — say, a four-column set rated at 60,000 lbs combined — and assume that’s the number that matters. What actually matters for restoration work is capacity per column and how evenly a specific truck’s weight distributes across the pickup points. A frame-off project with the cab removed and the bed off puts weight in different places than a fully assembled truck, and if you’re doing serious disassembly work, you need columns individually rated to handle uneven, shifting loads without derating.

We size these jobs based on the heaviest single vehicle configuration you expect, not the average. If there’s any chance a diesel three-quarter-ton or a truck with a heavy service body rolls through your restoration bay, size the columns for that scenario even if it’s not your daily work. Step Six: Service Access and Long-Term Support

A truck lift column is a long-term capital purchase, and where it comes from matters as much as the spec sheet.
