Mobile column setups are worth considering if you’re working on multiple vehicle types or larger trucks and want flexibility that a fixed installation doesn’t offer, though they come at a different price point than a standard four-post. Step Six: Plan for a Second Lift If You’re Running Concurrent Projects

Restoration shops rarely work on just one vehicle at a time, and this is where the decision tree branches again for growing shops. If you know you’ll regularly have one project in storage while actively working on another, budgeting for two units from the start, even if the second purchase comes a few months later, tends to be more cost-effective than retrofitting later. If your shop’s focus shifts from pure restoration toward more general repair work, having two independently operating lifts means you’re not stuck with a single configuration that only supports one workflow. Step Seven: Confirm Installation and Long-Term Service Support

The final branch of the decision tree is who installs and services the equipment, and it’s the step people most often treat as an afterthought.
