That configuration works best in shops with taller side walls, generally 14 feet or more, because you need clearance above the stored vehicle plus the header itself.

Baseplate configuration keeps the hydraulics and the cable routing down near the floor, connected between the four columns instead of overhead. For older municipal buildings with 10 to 12 foot side walls, or garages with lower trusses and lighting runs already in the way, baseplate is usually the only option that physically fits. It also tends to be simpler to service down the road since nothing is routed through the ceiling. We measure side wall height, column spacing, and any obstructions on every quote before recommending overhead over baseplate, because guessing wrong means a lift that either doesn’t clear or doesn’t anchor properly.

Suspension and Shock Work Underneath a Stored Vehicle

Running suspension and shock replacement in the bay below a parked vehicle changes how you think about the storage lift itself. You need a unit with a rock-solid locking mechanism, because that top vehicle isn’t going anywhere while your tech is torquing control arm bolts three feet below it. Every storage lift we install for fleet use gets mechanical safety locks engaged before anyone works underneath, full stop, no exceptions, regardless of how quiet the hydraulics sound.

We also talk fleet managers through arm and pad placement specific to their vehicle mix. A plow truck with a heavy front-mounted plow frame doesn’t balance the same way a squad car does, and lift pad contact points matter more when the vehicle above is going to sit loaded for days or weeks at a time, not just during a quick service.
