It’s not a dealbreaker — most techs adjust within a week — but it’s a real difference from overhead. Baseplate models also tend to run a bit less expensive for equivalent capacity, which matters if you’re outfitting a second or third bay and watching the budget. How Bay Layout Should Drive Your Decision

We spec arm length and reach based on the actual vehicles you run most, not just a generic recommendation.
Installation Realities in Older Shop Buildings

Overhead units put more stress on the crossbeam mounting points over time, especially in shops running heavy trucks daily. We recommend the same inspection routine either way: check cable tension monthly, grease pivot points on schedule, and have someone qualified inspect the locks and safety mechanisms at least once a year. Shops that skip inspections are the ones calling us for emergency repairs instead of scheduled maintenance, and emergency repair visits always cost more than a planned service call would have.
