A rolling jack is a hydraulic bridge that rides on the runways of a four-post, and it lifts the vehicle a few inches off the runways by the frame — unloading the suspension the same way a two-post does. The Building Question

The two-post needed 12 feet of ceiling with 10-foot columns, and it needed 12 feet of bay width and about 22 feet of drive-through depth. Check on all three. Two-post won for him because his suspension work volume was real, his storage need was moderate rather than critical, and he wanted the lower total cost of ownership. He accepted the trade-off of no drive-on storage in exchange for the cleaner suspension work geometry and the lower maintenance intensity over ten years. That is the decision that fell out of his particular numbers — someone else’s numbers might have landed on the four-post.
