You call around, get a few quotes, and every supplier seems to be describing something different: turnplates, slip plates, rear slip plates, camera towers, run-out compensation kits. Some of it bolts on. Some of it doesn’t fit your deck at all. Why Lift Alignment Package Compatibility Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All
The core issue with lift alignment package compatibility is that alignment hardware has to match three separate things at once: the physical deck of the lift, the runway width and turnplate pocket dimensions, and the alignment system’s software or camera-target geometry. A turnplate that’s a perfect fit on a Rotary four-post can be the wrong bolt pattern entirely on a different brand’s deck, even if both lifts look similar in a showroom photo. We’ve seen shops order a full alignment kit off a marketplace listing only to find the turnplate pockets are cut two inches off from where their lift’s factory recess sits.
This is why we always start alignment conversations with the lift’s serial number and deck specs, not the alignment brand name. Once we know the actual deck width, runway length, and whether the lift has factory-cut turnplate pockets or needs surface-mount plates, we can tell you in one phone call which alignment packages are realistic options. Skipping this step is the single most common reason shops end up with alignment hardware sitting in a box because nobody confirmed compatibility before it shipped.
Turnplates, Slip Plates, and What Each One Requires
Front turnplates need a recessed pocket in the lift deck, or a surface-mounted turnplate assembly that raises ride height slightly, so understanding which style your lift supports is core to lift alignment package compatibility. Recessed pockets are cleaner and keep the vehicle level, but they only work if your lift deck was manufactured with (or can be retrofitted to have) that cutout. Surface-mount turnplates work on almost any flat deck but add a small ramp angle, which some techs don’t love for precision alignment work.
Rear slip plates are usually less picky about deck geometry since they typically sit on top of the runway near the rear wheels, but they still need to match the lift’s runway width so the vehicle’s rear tires land correctly. We also check whether the shop wants a full four-wheel alignment package or just a front-end setup, because that changes how many plates and what total footprint you need on the deck. Getting the plate count and placement wrong is a quieter compatibility failure than a bolt-pattern mismatch, but it’s just as expensive to fix after the fact.
Runway Width and Lift Model Matter More Than Brand Name
A lot of shops assume alignment package compatibility is purely about matching alignment brand to lift brand, but runway width and deck length matter just as much. A wider commercial four-post built for heavy-duty trucks needs a proportionally larger turnplate and slip plate footprint than a standard passenger-car four-post, even from the same manufacturer. If you’ve got a truck alignment lift in your bay, the alignment hardware sized for a sedan-width four-post simply won’t sit right.
We also run into shops that bought a used four-post lift without alignment capability and want to add it later. That’s a completely different conversation from buying a lift and alignment package together new, because retrofitting turnplate pockets into an existing steel deck is a fabrication job, not a parts order. Camera Systems and Software Compatibility
Beyond the physical plates, lift alignment package compatibility also covers whether your alignment camera system or targets will read correctly off the lift’s geometry. Some camera-based aligners need a certain minimum runway length to get a clean line of sight to all four targets, and a shorter deck can force awkward camera tower placement or blind spots. New Lift Plus Alignment vs. Retrofit: Different Compatibility Rules
Buying a new four-post with alignment package built in is the cleanest path to guaranteed lift alignment package compatibility, because the manufacturer engineers the deck, turnplate pockets, and slip plate rails together from the start. Rotary and Challenger both offer factory alignment-ready decks where the pocket dimensions, plate thickness, and even the leveling ramps are matched from the factory, which eliminates almost all the guesswork we’ve described above.
Retrofitting an existing lift is where things get more complicated and where our shop does the most consulting work. We’ll ask for photos of your current deck, measurements of any existing cutouts, and your alignment machine’s model number so we can tell you honestly whether a compatible kit exists or whether you’re looking at a deck modification. Sometimes the honest answer is that a used lift simply isn’t a good alignment candidate and a different lift model makes more financial sense than forcing compatibility onto hardware that wasn’t designed for it.
