AC Recovery Machine for Sale Iowa — RobinAir, Mahle, and What Your Shop Actually Needs

An AC recovery machine is the tool that determines whether your shop can do AC service in-house or has to send it out. It recovers the old refrigerant, recycles it, evacuates the system, leak tests it, and recharges it with the correct amount. Without one, your techs are doing AC work with manifold gauges and cans of refrigerant from the parts store — which is slow, inaccurate, and increasingly illegal as EPA regulations tighten around refrigerant handling.

At Auto Lift Services, we sell AC recovery machines across Iowa. We carry RobinAir, Mahle ArcticPRO, and Rotary-branded units for both R-134a and R-1234yf systems. Here is what is available, what the differences actually are, and how to choose the right machine for your shop.

RobinAir AC Recovery Machines

RobinAir is our first recommendation for an AC recovery machine for sale in Iowa. The reason is simple: when a RobinAir machine breaks, we can fix it. The machines are designed to be serviced — components are accessible, parts are available, and the internal layout is meant for maintenance, not just assembly.

R-1234yf Models

AC1234-4. This is RobinAir’s standard R-1234yf recovery, recycle, and recharge machine. Fully automatic operation. 98.5 percent recovery efficiency, which is among the best in the category. Charge accuracy within plus or minus half an ounce — tight enough for even the most sensitive AC systems. Meets SAE J2927 and J2843 standards. This is the machine we install most often for shops adding R-1234yf capability for the first time.

AC1234-4SL (Mobile Service). Same machine as the AC1234-4 with an integrated mechanical scale lock. The scale lock eliminates the need to recalibrate the refrigerant scale after transporting the machine — which matters for mobile service operations or shops that move the machine between bays. If your AC recovery machine for sale needs to be portable, this is the one.

AC1234-9 (Connected). RobinAir’s premium R-1234yf machine. Large 10-inch capacitive touchscreen instead of the basic display. Automated internal refrigerant refill — the machine manages its own supply. Automatic oil drain and built-in refrigerant identification. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for firmware updates, remote diagnostics, and service records. This is the machine for shops that want maximum automation and are willing to pay for it.

R-134a Models

34788NI. The workhorse R-134a machine. Fully automatic recover, recycle, evacuate, leak test, and recharge. Improved 98.5 percent recovery efficiency. This machine handles the massive installed base of R-134a vehicles that Iowa shops still service daily and will continue to service for years.

34288NI. A more affordable R-134a option with simpler operation and a smaller footprint. Recovery exceeds 95 percent, which meets SAE J-2788 standards. This is a solid choice for shops with moderate R-134a volume that do not need the premium features of the 34788NI.

34988NI (Premier). RobinAir’s top-tier R-134a machine with the same 7-inch touchscreen interface as the 1234yf Connected model, plus enhanced automation and data tracking. For shops that want a premium R-134a experience to match their R-1234yf machine.

Mahle ArcticPRO AC Recovery Machines

Mahle’s ArcticPRO line competes directly with RobinAir. The machines are well-built with modern interfaces and good automation. The service model differs — Mahle emphasizes remote support and wireless diagnostics rather than traditional field serviceability.

R-1234yf Models

ACX2280. Mahle’s premium R-1234yf machine. 7-inch capacitive color touchscreen. Permanent wireless software updates keep the machine current without manual intervention. Automatic oil system management — the machine weighs recovered oil and handles accurate replenishment. Plus or minus 0.5 ounce charge accuracy with 95 percent recovery within 30 minutes. Remote support capability lets Mahle technicians connect over Wi-Fi for troubleshooting.

ACX2250. Mid-tier R-1234yf option with similar performance specs at a lower price point. Same charge accuracy and recovery performance without some of the premium features.

R-134a Models

ACX2150. Fully automatic SAE-certified R-134a machine. 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, permanent wireless software updates, and the same oil management system as the R-1234yf models. 3/8 HP compressor, 2 CFM dual-stage vacuum pump, 150-pound capacity spin-on filter drier, and 30-pound DOT charging cylinder. Machine weighs 215 pounds.

ACX2180. Mahle’s advanced R-134a option with additional features for high-volume operations.

Rotary AC Equipment

Rotary offers branded AC recovery machines priced competitively against RobinAir and Mahle. For shops already in the Rotary ecosystem — lifts, tire changers, balancers — adding Rotary AC equipment keeps everything under one service relationship. We service Rotary equipment directly with our own technicians, which means faster response times than manufacturer-dispatched service.

How to Choose the Right AC Recovery Machine

One machine or two?

If your shop services vehicles from the mid-1990s through current models — which is essentially every general repair shop in Iowa — you need both an R-134a machine and an R-1234yf machine. You cannot use one machine for both refrigerants. Cross-contamination damages AC systems and voids warranties.

Some shops start with an R-1234yf machine and sublet R-134a work. Some start with R-134a and add R-1234yf later. Neither approach is ideal. If your shop does AC work, you need both capabilities.

Volume and automation level

A shop doing two AC services a week can get by with a basic machine. A shop doing two a day needs automation — automatic recovery, automatic oil management, automatic leak testing — because manual steps slow the process and introduce operator error.

Budget

AC recovery machines range from a few thousand for entry-level R-134a units to mid-five-figures for premium connected models. The sweet spot for most Iowa shops is a mid-range R-134a machine (RobinAir 34788NI or Mahle ACX2150) paired with a standard R-1234yf machine (RobinAir AC1234-4 or Mahle ACX2250). This covers both refrigerants with good automation and solid serviceability.

The serviceability question

This is where we keep coming back to RobinAir. An AC recovery machine for sale is a tool that will eventually need service. The compressor, seals, valves, and filter drier are all wear items. When the machine needs repair during the busiest week of summer, the brand that can be fixed the fastest wins — regardless of what it said on the spec sheet the day you bought it.

What Comes With the Sale

Every AC recovery machine for sale from Auto Lift Services includes delivery, setup, initial testing, and operator training. We verify the machine is recovering, recycling, and charging accurately before the shop starts using it. We train techs on proper operation, hose connection procedures, oil management, and the filter drier replacement schedule that keeps the machine running cleanly.

We support the machine after the sale with parts, service, and maintenance — so your AC bay stays productive when it matters most.
