You’re not doing engine swaps or transmission work — you’re draining oil, checking filters, topping fluids, and moving the next car in within minutes. That usually points toward a drive-on lift or a mid-rise scissor rather than a heavy-duty two-post, because techs need to walk under the vehicle without pulling wheels most of the time.

We ask franchise operators a simple question first: how many bays, and how many vehicles a day are you targeting? A single-bay shop chasing high volume in a western Illinois market with two other quick lubes nearby needs a lift that gets a car up and down fast with minimal fuss. That’s different from a shop doing ten cars a day where cycle time matters less than raw uptime. The auto lift you choose should match your actual traffic, not just whatever’s cheapest on a spec sheet, because the wrong choice slows every single car that comes through your door.

Single-Phase vs Three-Phase: The Question That Changes Your Quote

Most of the calls we get about power start the same way — someone assumes their building’s electrical setup is fine, and it turns out the lift they want needs three-phase power that the building doesn’t have. Getting this nailed down early avoids a change order in the middle of install day, which is the worst time to find out your bay isn’t wired for what you bought.

What a Full Cost Breakdown Actually Includes, Lift Through Install

When we quote a job, we break it into pieces because that’s the only way a franchise operator with a corporate budget approval process can actually get it signed off. There’s the lift itself, freight to get it to western Illinois, any structural or anchor-related concrete work, the electrical run or panel upgrade if needed, and labor for the physical install. Oversize it without a reason and you’ve spent money on wire and breaker capacity you didn’t need.

Getting the circuit right the first time means your lift runs every cycle without nuisance trips pulling techs off a car mid-service.

Concrete and Anchor Requirements Before the Lift Ever Ships

An auto lift is only as solid as what it’s bolted into, and concrete is where we see the most surprises on quick lube retrofits. Older buildings sometimes have thinner slabs than a lift’s anchor spec requires, especially if the bay was built for a tire shop or a car wash before it became a lube shop. We always want to know the age and thickness of the slab before we commit to an install date, because pouring new concrete or reinforcing existing concrete adds time that a franchise timeline doesn’t always have room for.

If you’re mid-buildout on a new location, this is the easiest problem to solve — get us the lift specs before the slab goes in and we can tell your contractor exactly where anchors need to land and how thick it needs to be poured. A drive-on setup skips the arm-positioning step entirely, which shaves real seconds off every single vehicle when you’re running high volume. That’s the kind of detail that matters more in a quick lube bay than almost anywhere else.
