Cables stretch and wear based on cycles, not calendar time, so higher use means more frequent looks regardless of what the manual’s default interval says.

During inspection, check the entire visible length of each cable, not just the ends. The Floor-Anchoring Factor Nobody Mentions

What we don’t recommend DIYing is cable replacement or tension adjustment on a loaded or partially loaded lift. Cables under tension can whip if they fail during adjustment, and that’s not a risk worth taking to save a service call. It’s a short visit, it catches problems early, and it costs far less than replacing a damaged cable system after a failure — or worse, dealing with the aftermath of one.

Building a Simple Maintenance Log

It doesn’t need to be complicated — a notebook hanging near the lift works fine. This habit pays off two ways. Second, if you ever sell the home or the lift itself, a maintenance log adds real credibility and value, the same way service records do for a vehicle.
