Myth One: Arm Restraints Are Just a Manufacturer CYA

The arm restraint is the gear that locks each swing arm in position so it cannot rotate under load. On a two-post lift, the vehicle wants to shift with every movement you make under it: a pry bar on a stuck bolt, a slide-hammer on a rear caliper bracket, a tug on a stubborn ball joint. If the arm can rotate freely, the truck can walk off the pads. The restraint gears wear, the pins get bent, and the cable that ties them to the column can fray. A good pre-lift walk-around takes about thirty seconds: rock each arm gently to confirm the restraint holds, look at the pin engagement, listen for the click when the arm swings under load height. Myth Four: Differential Fluid Service Does Not Need a Full Lift

Myth Five: The Lock Cadence Does Not Matter

Some cheap imports run five-inch cadence, and some skip locks entirely on the way up and only engage at the top.
