The Automotive Lift Institute Gold Label is the only third-party certification of lift design in North America, and it is not a marketing badge. Any car lift sold in the United States that does not carry an ALI Gold label has either failed the audit or refused to submit to it, and either answer should tell an EV shop owner in Davenport everything they need to know before writing a check.

A tire rotation should never require a capacity conversation, and picking the correct rating up front prevents the mental math a technician does every time an unfamiliar EV rolls in. ALI certification is only valid up to the labeled capacity — treating a 9,000-pound rating as close enough voids the very safety guarantee the badge was purchased for. Myth Three: Any Two-Post Works for EVs
Not true, and this is one of the most expensive mistakes we see. EV pinch weld locations are often reinforced differently than ICE vehicles, and Tesla in particular publishes a service manual that specifies exact lift-point pad geometry. Standard two-post cup pads can crush the composite floor covers on a Model 3 or a Model Y if the technician is not paying attention. We recommend the Rotary and Challenger EV-specific pad adapter kits for any shop handling more than a handful of Teslas per week.
The car lift itself does not need to change — the arm geometry on both the SPO10 and the CL10 is fine for EV service — but the contact hardware absolutely does. Second, avoid mid-rise scissor lifts for EV tire rotation on models with air suspension. The compressed geometry can trigger a suspension calibration event that a shop then has to clear with a scan tool, and that is a five-minute job pretending to be a fifteen-minute job. A two-post with the right pads is the correct answer for most EV service work, and any shop pretending otherwise is either working around the wrong lift or ignoring the manufacturer service manual.
Myth Four: Overhead Lifts Need a Ten-Foot Ceiling
The most common ceiling complaint we hear from Davenport shops in older buildings. The truth: a low-ceiling variant of an overhead two-post like the Rotary SPO10-LC will fit under a 9-foot ceiling in a garage bay with clearance to spare. Do not let a lift dealer tell you that a car lift installation is impossible in your building because the ceiling is 9 feet. It almost always is possible with the right variant. Myth Five: Concrete Is Concrete

Myth Seven: You Do Not Need An Installer
The most expensive myth. We have inherited more than a dozen self-installed lifts in the last three years and had to correct anchor patterns, cable routing, and hydraulic bleeds because the DIY install missed critical torque and setup steps. ALI Gold certification is void if the installation does not follow the manufacturer install manual to the letter, and self-installers routinely miss the torque re-check that ALI specifies at the 90-day mark. A proper commercial car lift install includes concrete verification, anchor drill and set, initial lift-arm timing, cable equalizer calibration, hydraulic bleed, and the safety-lock engagement test.
Skipping any of those steps risks warranty coverage and, more importantly, risks the technician working under the lift on day 400.
