Worn Arm Restraints and Locking Mechanisms
Arm restraints and locking pawls are safety-critical, and they wear out from constant use. A locking mechanism that doesn’t engage cleanly, makes a grinding noise, or lets the arm drop slightly before catching is a warning sign that shouldn’t wait for the next scheduled service. These parts see repeated stress every single lift cycle, and over years of use the pawls and their springs fatigue.
We’ve inspected lifts where a tech kept using the equipment despite a rough-sounding lock because “it still caught eventually.” That’s exactly the kind of small issue that turns into a lift failure. Locking hardware is one of the cheaper parts on the entire lift, and replacing it proactively is far better than finding out it’s failed while a vehicle is at full height. Any annual inspection worth doing should include a hands-on check of every arm restraint and lock point on the lift.
Hydraulic Power Unit and Motor Issues

Anchor Bolts and Concrete Cracking

Vibration over years of use can work anchors loose, and concrete that wasn’t rated for the load can develop hairline cracks radiating from the base plates. If you notice movement at the base of the posts, or new cracking in the surrounding slab, stop using the lift until it’s inspected.
