Myth: Any Dealer Lift Layout Works for EV Axle Bays

The biggest myth we hear from shops shopping for dealer lifts is that a bay layout designed for gas vehicles will work fine for EVs. It won’t, at least not efficiently. EV platforms are longer in the wheelbase in many trims, heavier at the rocker due to battery placement, and require arms that can reach under structural battery skid plates without contacting high-voltage components. A layout that put the lift columns too close to a workbench or a parts rack made sense for oil changes and brake jobs, but it becomes a liability when a technician needs to swing a half-shaft out at an angle and needs three extra feet of clearance they don’t have.
