We see this mistake constantly — a shop buys a heavy duty lift, then discovers their stock adapters won’t reach a lifted 3500-series pickup or a cutaway van chassis without stacking blocks, which is not a safe workaround.

Pad material matters just as much as height. Rubber pads work fine for general truck work, but urethane holds up better under repeated heavy loads and resists the tearing and compression set that rubber develops after a season or two of daily use. For frame-contact lifting on commercial trucks, screw pads or frame cradles give you a more positive, adjustable connection than a fixed rubber block. If your shop rotates between duallies, cab-and-chassis trucks, and the occasional ag vehicle, having two or three pad styles on hand — not just one universal set — saves time and reduces the chance of a tech reaching for whatever’s closest instead of what’s correct for that vehicle.
