Confirm Your Concrete Slab Meets Spec

The second item on any honest hobbyist lift checklist is the floor itself. Two-post and four-post lifts anchor into the slab, and the anchors are only as strong as the concrete around them. Most manufacturers want a minimum of 4 inches of solid, uncracked, properly cured concrete rated at 3,000 PSI or better, with no expansion joints or old patch work running through the anchor pattern.

Check Your Electrical and Power Requirements

Most residential lifts run on a standard 220-volt single-phase circuit, but the exact amperage and outlet type vary by model, and this is where DIY installs go sideways fastest. We’ve seen homeowners run a lift on an undersized extension cord or share a circuit with a compressor and a welder, which trips breakers constantly and can shorten the life of the hydraulic pump.

Before you order anything, walk your garage’s electrical panel and count how many dedicated circuits you actually have available. Cables stretch, hydraulic fluid needs checking, and safety locks need periodic inspection, even on a lift that only sees weekend use.
