Most shops that call us about the sa10 challenger lift are not buying their first lift — they are replacing one. A chain-drive from the 1990s is showing its age, or a bargain-tier import has started dropping cables, or the shop grew and the old rack cannot handle the new pickups coming in. Why Shops Upgrade to the SA10 Challenger Lift
The three reasons we hear most often: cables snapped on the old lift, arm restraints failed, or the lift is not ALI certified and the shop’s insurance is now asking for it. Once one of those hits, the math changes fast. Getting the old rack out and a new sa10 challenger lift in on the same install day cuts your downtime to less than one working day in most cases.
There is also a segment of buyers who move up from a used lift they bought at auction. It gets installed, works for a year, and then something fails and no one carries the parts. When they call us for a replacement lifting cable and we cannot cross-reference the model, they usually decide to just replace the whole lift. Challenger’s parts availability is one of the actual reasons the brand keeps selling.
What Comes in the Crate
The SA10 ships with two columns, top-of-column hoses and cables, the power unit, both sets of swing arms, arm restraints, hardware bags, floorplate or overhead configuration parts, and the anchor bolts. What does not come in the crate: shop air, 220V wiring, and floor drains. Those are the site items you have to have ready before the truck backs up.
We open the crate at delivery, verify against the packing list, and note anything short. Challenger’s freight comes in on a common carrier and the crate takes some abuse in transit, so we always inspect before signing. If a column is dinged deep enough to matter, we start a claim on the spot instead of finding out three weeks later when you go to bolt it down.
Real Install Cost in Central Iowa
Install pricing on the SA10 in the Des Moines metro runs in the mid-range for a 2-post — call for the current number, but expect it to be well under what a heavy-duty 4-post install runs. That covers anchor drilling, hydraulic hookup, cable routing, safety-lock verification, and a load test. It does not cover the electrical hookup, because a licensed electrician has to land the 220V leg.
If you are in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Ames, Ankeny, Waterloo, or Sioux City, freight and install pricing stays in the same ballpark. Once you get out past Council Bluffs or Dubuque, mileage starts adding to the bottom line. Getting the Ceiling and Bay Ready
Two questions decide whether the SA10 will fit: how tall is the ceiling, and how thick is the concrete. Ceiling needs to clear the column height with headroom for the tallest vehicle you lift, and concrete needs to be 4 inches at 3,000 PSI. If either one is a problem, we tell you before we come out — no surprise callbacks.
Bay width matters too. The columns of the sa10 challenger lift want about 12 feet of clear opening, and the arms sweep beyond that. If your bay is 10 feet wide with a load-bearing wall, we will steer you to a different lift or a different bay. Comparing the SA10 to Rotary and Independent Options
Shops that cross-shop Challenger almost always look at Rotary next. The Rotary SPO10 is the closest comparable — 10K, 2-post, ALI certified, similar column heights. Both lifts perform well and both are sold and installed by us. The difference usually comes down to which brand a shop’s tech is already familiar with, and which arm design fits the vehicle mix.

Warranty, ALI Certification, and the Long Haul
Challenger backs the SA10 with a manufacturer warranty, and the lift is ALI Gold Label certified — that matters for insurance and for any shop that gets inspected by a regulatory body or a fleet customer. Keep the ALI sticker on the column and keep your annual inspection paperwork. We can perform the annual lift inspection if you are on our route.
Long-term, the SA10 lasts 15 to 25 years in a working shop with normal maintenance. Cables are the wear item; they usually get replaced somewhere in year 8 to 12 depending on cycles. Hydraulic fluid gets changed every few years, sheaves get greased, and the top-of-column shutoff gets tested. That is the whole maintenance program.
