Myth one: arm restraints self-engage when the arms are loaded
They do not. Arm restraints on a two-post home car lift for garage are gear-and-pawl systems that lock the arm at the swing pivot only after the arm is under load and the lift is off the ground. On most Rotary and Challenger two-posts, the gear engages a pawl that drops down as the lift rises past the first lock. A restraint gear built for a 4-inch pad and 5,000-pound load rating is not the same when someone stacks three 6-inch extensions to reach a lifted truck. The fix is telescoping arms with proper reach, or a taller frame-contact adapter designed for the vehicle. We recommend a symmetric or asymmetric two-post with front arms at 30 to 42 inches and rear arms at 42 to 60 inches for European service. Myth six: DIY concrete work is fine for home two-posts

A pole barn floor poured over sand without a compacted base is not adequate, regardless of how it looks on top.
