A dealership that treats lift maintenance the way it treats shop air compressors will get twenty-plus years out of good equipment. A dealership that ignores it will be replacing hydraulic cylinders at year eight. The program does not need to be complicated. Monthly, someone walks each bay and checks cable tension, lock engagement on every position, arm restraint function, hydraulic fluid level, and any visible leaks. That takes about ten minutes per lift and catches most problems before they strand a vehicle.
Annually, you need a formal inspection. ANSI/ALI standards call for it, your insurance carrier probably requires it, and it is the single best thing you can do for both safety and budget predictability.
