Choosing a lift for a small fleet is a different exercise than picking out a lift for a single tow truck or one owner-operator’s pickup. When you’re servicing five, ten, or twenty vehicles that might range from a half-ton work van to a box truck with a loaded trailer, one wrong guess on capacity or configuration can leave a bay useless for half your fleet. Start With the Heaviest Vehicle You Own, Not the Average

The single most common mistake we see when a shop is choosing a lift for a small fleet is sizing the lift to the “typical” vehicle instead of the heaviest one that will ever roll into that bay. A fleet that runs mostly half-ton vans but occasionally brings in a 3/4-ton diesel with a service body needs a lift rated for that diesel, every time, not the van. Capacity per vehicle is only half the equation — the other half is how many vehicles cycle through your bays in a day and how many lifts you actually need to keep up. A three-bay setup with only one working lift creates a bottleneck that costs you billable hours every single day, while an extra lift that sits idle most of the week ties up capital you didn’t need to spend. Undersized or mismatched adapters are a leading cause of slippage and instability on lifts that are otherwise perfectly rated for the load. A cheaper lift with a thin parts network can end up costing more than a proven Rotary or Challenger model once you count the days a truck sits waiting on a hydraulic hose or a lift cable that has to be special-ordered.
