Every conversation about small fleet lift selection should start with the single heaviest, widest, or longest vehicle in your lineup — not the average one. We see this mistake constantly: a fleet manager buys a lift rated for the sedans and half-ton trucks that make up most of the fleet, then adds one heavy service truck or a box van later and finds out the hard way it doesn’t fit or exceeds capacity. Capacity ratings on a two-post or four-post lift are not suggestions; they account for arm reach, lift geometry, and center of gravity, and pushing past them is a genuine safety risk, not just a paperwork issue.

For most small fleets running pickups, cargo vans, and light-duty service trucks, a 10,000 to 12,000 lb two-post lift covers the bulk of the work with margin to spare. If your fleet includes one-ton duallies, box trucks, or anything approaching a bus or ambulance chassis, you’re looking at 15,000 to 30,000 lb capacity, and likely a four-post or heavy-duty two-post configuration instead. Write down your full vehicle roster — not just today’s roster, but what you expect to add in the next three to five years — before you spend a dollar. Two-Post vs. Four-Post for Small Fleets

A shop running one lift for daily oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections across a dozen trucks puts more cycles through that equipment in a month than most home garages see in years.
